This was a commission from a client who had had a pair of fine mechanical music box-movements for many years, and wanted to have a pair of boxes made for them to give as gifts. Our first (and last) conversation about them took place late one evening over several glasses of scotch. The boxes were to be a surprise. They should have "good wood, nice joinery." The rest was up to me. Sadly, the client never got to see the boxes before they were completed. The universe has a way of pulling the rug out from under you like that. The boxes did, however, find their way to their intended recipients, who were very happy to have them.
