This table and benches was originally built for the Dining & Discourse Exhibition at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. The idea was to build a piece that was about sharing a meal together, and where the setting was more important than the actual food. I wanted to build a table that combined the function of a classic, 2x6 pine table with the design and construction elements of a piece of fine, handmade furniture. Mostly, I just really love picnic tables. You can read more about it here. I am really happy with the way this table turned out. At the end of the day it is just a picnic table, although it is one that is meant to be used and enjoyed for a long, long time.
